Name: Laura Cavender - Season 2003 & 2004
Position: Cook
Vessel: schooner Inland Seas.
Background: My history is a few decades shorter than most of my crewmates. I am part of a innovative and lovely family. We pursued the "simpler life" for many years; gleaning and preserving the lost arts of homesteading. After all my life on the land I'm being woed by the waves this summer. I've worked several fascinating jobs these past years, both in and out of kitchens. From Chef's assistant to the art of peanut-butter/jelly assembly as a nanny. I've also volunteered abroad; teaching CharacterFirst in the high schools of Romania for a semester. I've spent some time studying sustainable agriculture, After running down many avenues seeking my "life work" I still haven't decided on anything. For now I'm keeping the coffee hot and learning to sail. I love God, the outdoors, fresh ideas, genuine people, life-threatening situations, warm kitchens and fullness of life. |
